This website looks great on mobile devices!
Brief Overview

Brief Overview: NEST Modern is a modern furniture retailer with retail storefronts in Austin and San Antonio. The website was originally developed in a time before widespread mobile computing or widescreen monitors. There was no real emphasis on social-sharing, easy to update content management, or mobile friendliness. It was performing well in search engines for “modern furniture in Austin, Texas” but was not doing well with San Antonio localization.

Key Modules, Theme, and Distribution Used
NEST Modern was built on Drupal 7, with EPSA Crop * EPSA Crop - EPSA Crop was chosen to allow the client to manage and edit their product images without having to edit them in a desktop image editor such as Adobe Photoshop. * Meta tags - Meta Tags allowed us to provide structured metadata on the Website for SEO purposes. * Pathauto - The Pathauto module automatically generates URL/path aliases for various kinds of content without requiring the user to manually specify the path alias, resulting in human-parsable URLs. * XML Sitemap - The XML sitemap module creates a sitemap that conforms to the sitemaps.org specification to help search engines such as Google more efficiently crawl a website and keep results up to date.
Why these Modules, Theme, and Distribution were Chosen

Drupal 7 was chosen for ease of use for the client, which allowed for NEST Modern to update their offerings without having to know markup language such as HTML.  Drupal 7 was also a very extensible platform which allowed us to create custom code and integrate it easily.

Describe the Project (Goals, Requirements, and Outcome)

NEST Modern came to us with the primary goal of reworking the website to be compatible with evolving web standards including widescreen browsing, mobile browsing, social-sharing, and easy content management.  Despite making these changes, NEST Modern needed to preserve the existing site design aesthetic and placement in search engine rankings.

* A redesign which retained the clean and simple lines of the original, but accounted for widescreen viewers, and mobile visitors.

* An increase in the size and resolution of images to take advantage of increased broadband while still providing a site that played well overall with the slower data speeds of mobile data.

* A content management system that allows the client to update the content autonomously.

* A new section showcasing NEST Modern’s design services, with high-resolution imagery and project descriptions.

* A way to improve the site’s rankings for strategic keyword phrases related to the San Antonio storefront, which had opened its doors after the original site was developed.

  • The new Drupal-based website was much easier to maintain, with NEST Modern able to add, remove, modify, and maintain all the content without needing to resort to knowing HTML code or opening up Photoshop to alter images.
  • Placing the new San Antonio location on the main page of NESTModern.com resulted in SEO improvements for San Antonio results.
  • Using canonical URLs produced many SEO-based benefits as well as made the URLs human-readable, allowing for easier navigation.
  • We were able to give them a new way to deliver product specifications to interested clients, increasing the speed at which they could respond to customer and potential customer requests.
  • We made the website responsive and able to be viewed on all tablet and phone touchscreen devices.
